Sometimes odd things happen at the range. This is one of those events that happened by accident. I was working up some reduced-recoil loads with IMR Trail Boss for my 308 Winchester and fired a couple of groups with very slow, tumbling bullets.
This is a 5-shot group, at 100 yards, shot from a bipod with rear bag and a tumbling 168 grain Sierra MatchKing (SMK). It measures 1.286″ (1.228 MOA)!
I’d attribute the tumbling to the low, 1,156 feet/second muzzle velocity of the load.
So in case you were wondering; yes, you can shoot groups with tumbling bullets. At least you can with the 168 grain SMK!
